Conference Dinner

The Conference Dinner will take place at the world cultural heritage Völklingen Ironworks (Völklinger Hütte). Völklingen is a town near Saarbrücken and the ironworks was built in 1873. After the shut down of the blast furnaces in 1986 the Saarland Council of Ministers agreed to preserve parts of the closed works as significant historic monuments. In 1994 the Völklingen Ironworks was listed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites list as the first industrial monument.

The dinner will take place at the blower hall (Gebläsehalle) of the Ironworks.

In addition, it will be possible to visit the exhibition "Genius I” which is currently accommodated in the Völklingen Ironworks. This exhibition takes the visitor to seven large theme worlds which open up the vast panorama of the most significant inventions from ancient times to the present day.

Saarland Museum - Modern Gallery

Guided tour through the collection of the Modern Gallery. The exhibition shows paintings of the Berlin Secession - with Max Liebermann, Max Slevogt, Lovis Corinth and of the German Expressionists - Franz Marc, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde.

Ceramic Art and History

Bus trip to Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach.

The house of Villeroy and Boch: Factory, Museum, Keravision, the Old Abbey with Park and the Living Planet Square.

The Keravision exhibition: In the baroque hall, you can watch a film that presents the milestones in the companies history. You will get to know the people who steered the company’s fortunes and expressed the times in which the were living in ceramic form. The film is entertainingliy presented by the brilliant raconteur Sir Peter Ustinov. Following the V&B visit have a little shopping tour in the factory outlets.

To the Romans and the Celts

Bus trip and guided tour to the archaeological excavation fields near Reinheim (Germany) and Bliesbruck (France). Visit the burial chamber of a celtic princess and in a distance of only 800 meters a roman settlement with villa and thermal springs.

In summer 2007 there is also an exhibition which compares
archaelogical troves in Pompeji and in Reinheim/Bliesbruck
"Life in the Roman Europe".

Take a walk to the City of Saarbrücken

Your guide will show you some interesting buildings and places in Saarbrücken: The castle and the “Ludwigskirche” - baroque buildings by the famous architect Friedrich-Joachim Stengel. During your walk you will also learn a lot of the eventful francogerman history of the city and the region.
